	WOUND CENTER ADDS 2ND CHAMBER

	For the better part of a year, the Wooster Community Hospital Hyperbaric Medicine & Wound Healing Center has been documenting the need for an additional Hyperbaric Chamber to help the patients it serves in a seven county area. We are proud to announce the arrival of the second of its Hyperbaric (HBO) chambers -- the Sigma 40. This state-of-the-art piece of equipment will help our center to serve patients that we had been unable to serve previously, either due to size limitation or diagnoses, such as RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome), severe back pain, or claustrophobia. The Sigma-40, allows a patient to sit in a more upright position. In fact, they can adjust the back to the angle which suits them the best for comfort. Patients who have been previously challenged with feeling closed-in will find that this chamber offers them significantly more space. HBO Therapy allows the patient to breathe 100% oxygen at increased atmospheric pressures. This increases the oxygen levels in your tissues, promotes healing and fights infection. 	Thanks to early detection and new therapies, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 64 percent of adults whose cancer is diagnosed today will still be living in five years. Of the more than one million people who will be diagnosed with cancer this year, half will undergo radiation therapy. Yet after beating cancer, many patients who undergo radiation therapy discover a hidden complication that may not come to light until years after they concluded treatments. 			At Wooster Community Hospital Wound Healing Center, we have the most advanced treatment resources available including:

			Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitoring(TcPO2) Determines the level of oxygen necessary to promote healing.

			Your role in healing:
			Much of the success of your treatment depends on you. We will count on you to follow directions carefully and watch your progress closely. You will learn about caring for your wound at home including how to change dressings and how to protect yourself from further injuries. We are always here to answer questions and give you the support you need to heal.



			How to start healing:

			1. Generally the physician presently treating your wound will refer you to our Center. Or, you can make your appointment directly. 2. When you call for your first appointment we will ask you questions about your wound and health in general. 3. Before beginning treatment, our team of doctors, nurses, and therapists will evaluate your wound and review your health and medical history. 4. Tests might be conducted to tell us more about your blood flow and tissue oxygenation as well as to determine if there is any infection present. 5. Together with your physician, we will develop a treatment program based on our assessment of you special needs. Your program will likely involve regular visits to the Center. Your progress is documented and adjusted as necessary. 6. We are in constant communication with your doctor during your care. Once your wound is healed, you will return to your doctor for follow-up care. And you will continue with your personal doctor for any related ailments like diabetes and hypertension.
